Bear Needs Rescue - Franklin, VA  May 2nd 2012: Bear is a gentle dog. He is low HW positive, so he is being treated with Heart Guard. He gets along with other dogs. He did not show any interest in the chickens that were out when I was walking him one morning. He appears to be a Lab mix, possibly mixed with Chow. He is medium sized, and needs to put on some weight. He was picked up by AC after they trapped him. There were 2 puppies lying beside the trap waiting for him to get out. It appears that he was very attached to the puppies. He loves to go for walks. He does not want pee or poop in his kennel. Bear came to Franklin with the group of dogs that were pulled from a very high kill shelter in NC. Franklin was supposed to be a layover stop for them to go to other rescues. Through no fault of their own, the rescues did not come through. I have met Bear and spent time walking him. I will help with transport. Can your rescue take him? He is a large Labrador mix, weighs about a 100 pounds and is about 7 years old. Click on the picture to see for more photo's. He is an alpha dog, loving and smart. He likes going on walks and riding in the vehicle. He is potty trained and healthy. His shots are mostly up to date with Hilltop Vet in Virginia Beach, their number is 757-425-2011. His rabies shot is up to date but he does need an update for his DHLPP-C booster. He does not like animals, or children that like to touch him a lot. He is pretty much a single pet owner without small children. He is a great watch dog and is used to living in the house and will let you know when he needs to go to potty. He needs an owner that has a fenced in yard. He also does not like visitors in the house that wear hats but in a short time he will warm to them. This is very hard for me to give him away but I have no choice as I will soon not be able to look after him.
