Alert 4/30/08 Tornado Hits: Our Friends in Suffolk Need Us
On Monday, 4/28, a tornado hit the Suffolk area. There is much needed including help for animals.

VBSPCA is working in partnership with Suffolk Animal Control to provide the following:

Hotline info for missing/found animals: Suffolk dispatch at 757-923-2350
Temporary staging ground located at Suffolk Animal Control, 124 Forrest Glen Drive, Suffolk, VA. 60 cages

Emergency trailer to be collocated with/
HSUS forms missing/found animals
Temporary housing at animal control
Temporary collection site for missing/found animals
Providing 24 trained staffing
All animals will be scanned for microchips

Reports of no large livestock issues at this time although there are many pets running at large

3. If you live nearby:
a. contact the Humane Society (757-374-1476) and offer your help; or
b. contact Suffolk Animal Control (757-514-7855) and offer your help; or
c. offer to take an animal temporarily - or permanently!

Your help will be very welcome.

Pets Out of Time at Spotsylvania Animal Shelter, Fredericksburg, VA
Dogs may be euthanized at any time depending on available space. Space is very limited right now so please hurry in to meet the dogs or call the shelter staff on (540) 507-7459. Email is not checked regularly and all the lovely dogs here are on limited time.

Below is the current list of dogs needing homes or rescue. Click on the dogs picture or ID# to see more information and a larger photo. To see more of the list move your mouse so that it is over the list and rotate your scroll wheel or click on the down arrow at the bottom right of the list.

Click on the photo to see a larger version. Move the scroll bar to see more dogs. In the search engine change the Animal to cats then click on the green Go button to see the list of cats needing homes.

We are a county facility, we try to find all the animals a loving, lifelong home. Due to the high number of animals the shelter receives it is not always possible to find them a home before their kennel is needed. Please phone us if you can save a life. Click here for adoption conditions and fees.

Donations required
We are in need of: blankets, towels, sheets, dog toys, treats (dog and cat), cat toys, play toys designed for puppies, cat litter. Plug-in air fresheners. Anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated.

Valley Dog Rescue lists transports that start or finish in ME, NH, MA, RI, CT, VT, NY, NJ, PA, DE, MD, DC and VA. There are many transports every week needing volunteers to help save dogs from certain death by transporting them to a safe haven. These transports often pass through GA, SC, NC, TN, KY, OH and WV so if you would like to help you can join the e-mail list to receive up to date information about transports passing through your area.
