Ironton Pet Shelter
The shelter was established to care for abused pets awaiting trial outcomes. Since the shelter closed, the Lawrence County Humane Society is in need of foster homes. If you are willing to foster a dog or cat e-mail info3@irontonshelter.org We rehome animals to new caring homes. Puppies and kittens are usually available, but consider giving an adult dog or cat the first loving home they have ever known. You will be rewarded with the love and loyalty of a grateful pet.

Who We Are
The Lawrence County Humane Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization depending entirely on fundraisers and donations. We are a no-kill, non-profit, all volunteer organization. Volunteers and donations are always needed. Donations can be sent to Lawrence County Humane Society, P.O. Box 412, Ironton, Ohio 45638. Donations are tax deductible.

Foster Homes Urgently Needed
We need temporary homes where we can keep dogs that have lost their homes. This will be temporary foster care while we screen adopters through internet contacts. The Humane Society will work with foster care providers and pay all medical expenses. If you like dogs but for some reason you cannot keep a dog permanently or would like to try out caring for a dog before making the commitment to adopt then fostering could be ideal for you. You must have a securely fenced yard to foster a dog. If you are willing to foster a dog or cat and live in the tri-state area please e-mail info3@irontonshelter.org
Support the Ohio Puppy Mill Bill
We are pleased to tell you we have our 2nd consecutive hearing scheduled for the Senate on Wednesday, April 30th, beginning at 2:30 pm.

As you may know, Ohio ranks 2nd in the entire country for numbers of puppy mills. An undercover investigator, who has been to puppy mills throughout the United States, has called Ohio puppy mills the worst for humane conditions. Even though Missouri has many more puppy mills, our dogs are allowed to be kept in poorly maintained kennels without regard to appropriateness to size or cleanliness.

We had great testimony this week and feel optimistic the puppy mill bill will continue to move forward in the coming weeks. We are gaining momentum because so many people have been active in the process. Thank you for your calls, emails and personal stories to the senators and representatives. They are listening and they are becoming more aware of how many people are watching the bill. Martha Leary will again have name tags with pins that say "Support the Puppy Mill Bill" to show how many of us are there. Look for Martha walking around with a basket.

Our friends at State Street Consultants have the best map of the State House area at www.StateStreetOhio.com/map.cfm There are also street directions from all directions as well.

We will continue to update our website with information and new pictures from Ohio pup mills. Below you will find links to committee members emails if you would like to contact them to say thanks for the hearings or just let them know you continue to watch the progress of the bill.

Your state rep and senator e-mail address can be found at these links:

Thank you for being a voice for the dogs that linger in the mills.

For the Dogs,
Kellie DiFrischia
